Top 5 favourite plants for the bedroom

You sleep better with more oxygen, and air-purifying plants can help you with this. So a win-win situation! You have a beautiful and clean bedroom. The advantage of plants? That they are natural air purifiers! Without you realizing it, those plants of yours are hard at work. They open their stomata to convert CO2 into oxygen in this way. Did you know that there are even plants that remove harmful substances and odors from the air? Yes, you heard that right! A plant is not just a piece of nature, but super effective. Especially in the bedroom!

Our favourite bedroom plants

  • Curly Fern
  • Ficus (Lyrata)
  • Bromeliaceae (Pineapple)

The Curly Fern (Nephrolepis)

First of all: the Fern. Perhaps one of the most air-purifying plants there is. Ideal for the bedroom!

The Curly Fern purifies the air and also provides the ultimate air humidity. Extra pleasant for when you have sensitive skin. The most special feature of the Fern is the button. At least, if you ask the Maori. According to them, the button of a fern symbolizes a new start, peace and serenity.

The Ficus (Lyrata)

Just like the Fern, a Ficus is well trained in purifying the air. Dirty morning air? Get rid of it! Especially the Ficus Lyrata with its beautiful large leaves is very suitable as a bedroom plant. Although other Ficus species are not inferior to the Lyrata. Beautiful, simple and air-purifying!

Bromeliaceae (Pineapple)

Perhaps the most suitable bedroom plant: the Bromeliaceae Pineapple. In other words, the pineapple plant! Small in size, but extremely air-purifying. There are even rumors that this plant can help against snoring!

How’s that possible? Most houseplants convert CO2 into oxygen during the day. The pineapple plant does this process at night. Which provides more oxygen. Oxygen that is often lacking when you snore. Whether the pineapple plant actually helps is something you have to find out for yourself.

Aloe Vera

Another little air-purifying inner plant. Perfect for the smaller bedrooms! And for all plant lovers without green fingers of course. The Aloe Vera is not so difficult to care for. Purifying the air and filtering harmful substances can also be done without water or plant nutrition.

Spoon plant (Spathiphyllum)

According to NASA, the Spoon plant (Spathiphyllum) is one of the most air-purifying plants there is. Why is that? The plant has small openings in the leaf. This allows even better filtering of harmful and foul smells, for a healthy bedroom. In addition, purifying the air for the spoon plant is also a breeze. The Spoon plant (Spathiphyllum) is certainly a bedroom plant with a good status.

How do you choose the right bedroom plant?

It is important to not only choose a plant according to your own wishes. The requirements of the plant are also important. Does the plant prefer a light position? Or does the plant not have as many requirements as the Aloe Vera? Match the plant with the space, but also with yourself.

If you don’t have handy green fingers, a lot of plants can already be removed from the list. For example, the Calathea is probably too much of a diva for you. But that doesn’t matter! There are plenty of other plants that are not so demanding, but still purify the air for you.
