Tips for a minimalist interior design

If you want to create an attractive room, this often starts with home accessories. But why really? Even without a lot of fuss you can create a nice atmosphere. It may be difficult to leave all those nice frills behind, but it is certainly a nice challenge.

1. Stick to a colour palette

If you are looking for peace and unity, it is wise to work with a colour palette. With every piece of furniture you ask yourself whether it fits. Even as soon as you start looking for new furniture or decoration.

By working with a colour palette you limit yourself to a few colors. This ensures a calm appearance. Especially if you are a fan of colour! By using many colours, a room can quickly become too overwhelming.

2. Make sure there is enough light

Light is an important aspect in a space. Create more light with wall lamps, candles and thin window coverings. Take for example Duette window coverings, ideal for more light and enough privacy.

With light you make a room bigger and more atmospheric. It is not for nothing that cellars do not have a cozy appearance.

3. Opt for a large plant

Nature brings tranquility, but not only that! In addition to tranquility, nature is also very attractive and feels warm. Exactly the atmosphere you want in your home.

If you don’t have green fingers, it is best to choose one large plant. This way you create a real eye-catcher without getting too overwhelming. A large plant is also definitely a tip if you do have green fingers.

Our favourite large plants

  • Strelitzia
  • Kentia palm
  • Traveller’s tree
  • Pachira Aquatica
  • Schefflera

4. Add a piece of art

In addition to a large houseplant, you can also provide the room with atmosphere through art. When it comes to art and paintings you can go both ways. Art for on the wall or art in the form of an image, for example.

Choose a piece of art that gives you energy. Although you probably expect art to make you restless, this is usually not the case. It is allowed to have some colours, figures and patterns on it. This can provide energy, tranquillity and warmth.
