Tips for a minimalist interior design

By Danique
in Home & Interior

If you want to create an attractive room, this often starts with home accessories. But why really? Even without a lot of fuss you can create a nice atmosphere. It may be difficult to leave all those nice frills behind, but it is certainly a nice challenge.

1. Stick to a colour palette

If you are looking for peace and unity, it is wise to work with a colour palette. With every piece of furniture you ask yourself whether it fits. Even as soon as you start looking for new furniture or decoration.

By working with a colour palette you limit yourself to a few colors. This ensures a calm appearance. Especially if you are a fan of colour! By using many colours, a room can quickly become too overwhelming.

Provide proper lighting

Light is an important aspect in any room. Whether it is artificial light, candles or natural light. In case of the natural light, window coverings are very important.

When it comes to artificial lighting, hanging lamps with multiple lighting pendants are also a good idea. These are named hanging lamps with multiple ‘lighting arms’. Sort of like a chandelier! The nice thing about these types of hanging lamps is that they are also dimmable. To keep calm in a room, dimmable light can be very valuable.

With light, you make a room bigger and more atmospheric. There is a reason why basements lack a cosy feel.

3. Opt for a large plant

Nature brings tranquility, but not only that! In addition to tranquility, nature is also very attractive and feels warm. Exactly the atmosphere you want in your home.

Als je niet beschikt over groene vingers kun je het beste kiezen voor één grote plant. Zo creëer je een echte eye catcher zonder dat te druk wordt. Een grote plant is ook zeker een tip als je wel beschikt over groene vingers.

Our favourite large plants

  • Strelitzia
  • Kentia palm
  • Traveller’s tree
  • Pachira Aquatica
  • Schefflera

4. Add a piece of art

In addition to a large houseplant, you can also provide the room with atmosphere through art. When it comes to art and paintings you can go both ways. Art for on the wall or art in the form of an image, for example.

Choose a piece of art that gives you energy. Although you probably expect art to make you restless, this is usually not the case. It is allowed to have some colours, figures and patterns on it. This can provide energy, tranquillity and warmth.
