Orchid care: useful tips and tricks

The ideal location for an Orchid

Orchids are subtropical plants. Ideal if you like a warm house! An Orchid prefers a temperature of about 20 to 22 degrees.

Although the Orchid enjoys light, direct sunlight is not a good idea. Then it can just as easily happen that its leaf burns. And what do you want to prevent!

How much water does an Orchid need?

The watering of Orchids depends on several factors:

  • Amount of light
  • Season
  • Warmth in the house

In summer, an Orchid needs water every 5 to 7 days.

In winter, an Orchid needs water once every 10 days.

How do you water an orchid?

An Orchid can be watered by spraying the plant with a plant spray. The Orchid absorbs water through its flower, leaves and roots. So it’s just as easy, a plant sprayer!

Of course you can also water the plant with a watering can. Make sure that you don’t water too much!

Besides misting or watering, you can also submerge the Orchid with water. Take the plant out of its pot, put it in the sink or bucket with water. You can take the plant out of the water after about half an hour. Pay attention! Let the root ball drain well before it goes back into its flowerpot.

How much plant nutrition does an Orchid need?

An orchid needs plant nutrition for its roots, leaves and strength of the plant. From spring onwards, the plant needs extra plant nutrition once a month. In the winter you can provide the Orchid with extra nutrition every 2 months.

To provide an Orchid with the right food you can buy special plant food. In garden centres or a plant shop, we recommend that you buy brass fabric especially for Orchids.
