Imagine you bump into beautiful curtains or a piece of fabric, but unfortunately these are not officially suitable as shower curtains. Then you just turn them into a shower curtain, don’t you? Sounds tricky, but can be done within 4 simple steps. We’ll explain it to you!
Ready to go
If you have found a beautiful curtain, you should pay close attention to what material the curtain is made of. Not all materials are suitable for humidity and wetness in a bathroom. Vinyl, polyester and a polyester cotton mix are in any case suitable.
Most curtains have round holes. If this is the case, you can basically hang the curtain on the shower rod, and you’re done. Aren’t there any holes or hooks on the curtain yet? Then we simply show you how to do this.
Supplies
- Curtain made of vinyl, polyester or a polyester cotton blend
- 6 shower curtain hooks
- Electric iron
- Sewing machine with thread
- Tape measure
- Pencil
Step 1
The next step is usually not necessary if you have bought a curtain. Do you want to turn a large piece of fabric into a shower curtain? Then pay attention!
Fold 10 centimeters in half and go over it with the iron. Fold these 10 centimeters again and go over again with the iron.
Then pin the fabric in place so that the fabric stays in place after ironing. Then sew the fabric in place with a sewing machine.
Step 2
Lay down the curtain and divide the 6 shower hooks over the fabric. Make sure the spacing is the same each time. You can use a tape measure for this.
Mark the spots of the shower hooks with a pencil
Step 3
After the 6 places for the shower hooks were marked, you can make a buttonhole with the sewing machine.
How you make a buttonhole is different for each sewing machine. It is therefore best to consult the sewing machine’s instructions on how to make a buttonhole.
Step 4
Once all buttonholes have been sewn it is easy to hang the shower hooks over the curtain lining. Then the shower curtain can be put on the shower bar. It can be that easy!
Do you think the length of the shower curtain is too long? Then repeat step 1 for the bottom of the curtain.
