DIY: Drop cloth table runner

by Danique

in Home interior design

Supplies

  • Drop cloth of fabric
  • Accent fabric
  • White thread
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread in a contrasting colour
  • Electric iron
  • Stanley knife or scissors

Step 1

Most drop cloths are far too long and wide for a table runner. It is best to adjust the dimensions on your own dining table. For us 185 by 38 centimeters was enough.

Step 2

With a Stanley knife or scissors, cut two pieces from the accent fabric. Our pieces were 18 by 38 centimeters.

Step 3

Take the pieces of accent fabric and turn them over. Then place a piece of accent fabric on each end of the drop of cloth.

Then move the iron over the lower part of the accent fabric. Do this for both pieces of accent fabric.

Step 4

Secure the two pieces of accent fabric with pins.

Step 5

First use the thread in the contrasting colour. Sew the underside of the accent fabrics on both sides of the drop of cloth.

Step 6

Repeat steps 3 to 5, but for the top of the accent fabric.
