DIY: create your own dried flower bouquet

By Danique
in Home & Interior

Of course you can buy your own dried flowers, but drying your own flowers is just as much fun! Within one week you will have a bouquet that will last a long time.

Flowers you can dry yourself

1. Eucalyptus

Did you get a nice bouquet with Eucalyptus branches in it? Then it’s best to cut away the part that was in the water. That way you prevent the part from rotting.

If the Eucalyptus branches have not touched water, it is of course not necessary to cut away a part of the branch.

Drying Eucalyptus is very easy! Put the branches in a vase with water, and in no time the leaves are dried. The nice thing about Eucalyptus branches is that they keep their colour for a very long time.

2. Lavender

You can pick Lavender fresh from the garden, or buy a plant. Place the Lavender on a bowl in a well-ventilated room. Within a few days the flowers will be dry and you can use them as dried flowers!

3. Hortensia

Probably a bit large for a bouquet, but the Hortensia is also an ideal dried flower.

To start with, cut off a branch of the Hortensia. It is important that the bud with flowers is only just fully flowering.

Hang the branch with flower in a warm but dry room.

4. Baby’s-breath

In most bouquets, besides Eucalyptus, you will usually also find Baby’s-breath. Cut off the part of the branch that has been in the water.

Make a bunch of the Baby’s-breath and hang it upside down in a warm dry place.

5. Roses

Roses are also easy to dry yourself. Make a bunch, hang them upside down in a dry warm room and you have your own dried flowers.

Different ways to dry flowers

1. Through the air

2. With an oven

You can easily dry flowers by using an oven. Do not set the oven too hot. We recommend not to go higher than setting 3.

Put the flowers in a lockable box. After a few hours the flowers are dried! Costs a little more effort, but then you have your dried flowers the same day.

3. With a thick book

You can also dry flowers by putting them in a book for a few weeks. Attention! Not all flowers are suitable for this method. Flowers with a thick stem are not suitable. Close the book and then put other books, or something else heavy on the book. Within a few weeks your bunch of flowers will be dried.

4. With silicone gel

The white bags that you often find with shoes or clothes, can be used to dry flowers. Put the dried flowers with the white bags in a wooden box, and within a few weeks you will have dried flowers.

Tip!
