Wooden outdoor flower boxes: 4 examples

How nice is it to have a number of flower boxes with beautiful coloured flowers in your garden? You can choose to centre colours together or create a colour palette in a container. But you can often easily make those flower boxes yourself. And that’s just a little bit more fun. Are you looking for a beautiful flower box? Try making one yourself. Because it’s always nice to be able to say that you made it. You can buy your own wood, choose for example between scaffolding wood or spruce wood. Do you have a taste for it? Then eventually you can make your own furniture from wooden pallets. But first 4 examples of flower boxes, from easier to expert-level.

1. The traditional flower box

This flower box is straightforward, but a keeper. The nice thing about this container is that it is also the easiest to make yourself. Perfect for someone who is just starting out with jobs, but also fits in well with a modern garden. For a small upgrade you can put it on, for example, steel legs. This gives the flower box a spatial effect.

2. Different heights

Does your garden have a lot of straight lines? Then you can work with a flower box in different heights. This provides a little more dynamism. With this planter there are plenty of possibilities. Go for extra playful and vary the colours per planter, or go for tighter and place a kind of flower. You can still choose different flowers of the same colour or one colour per container. In short: something for everyone.

3. Flower box with backrest

There are flowers that grow in height, think for example of the Tuscan Jasmine. A beautiful plant with white flowers. But for this you need a planter with a kind of back. The plant can grow against that. Fortunately, this is still quite simple to make. Make one with gauze, so you can weave the plant in it. This way you keep it nice and firm and the plant has less chance of hanging up. A beautiful flower box to create more niches and cosy corners in your garden.

4. Next level flower box

If you really are an expert in making flower boxes, we have a slightly more complicated version for you. This flower box, which has the shape of a wheel, is really meant for do-it-yourselfers who feel like a challenge. But fair is fair: you do have a showpiece in your garden. But don’t you think this variety suits your garden? Of course, there are many variants. Think of a wheelbarrow or a flower box in the shape of a letter. Once again, you can vary a lot in the flowers. Do you go for a colour or do you go for the playful effect of all kinds of different flowers together?
