Air plants, also known as Tillandsias, are unique plants. They can be recognized by their small size and the absence of visible roots. The official name Tillandsia means “over land”. And that’s exactly where an air plant grows.
Air plants originally grow in the rainforests and desert in the South of the United States. Think of Mexico and Central and South America. Here the air plants grow mainly on rock trees.
Taking care of an air plant
Caring for an air plant is the simplest task there is. Air plants do not have roots. That means, no flower pot, no soil and no hassle.
An air plant only needs indirect sunlight and regular misting. Spray the air plant with the plant spray once every two weeks. That’s it!
Make sure that the air plants do not stay wet for too long. This can lead to root rot, even without roots.
Tip! Do you want to spoil the air plants extra? Then make a bath with water and let the air plants bathe in it. After bathing, shake the air plants well. Because air plants are extra sensitive!
