14 Festive Fireplace Mantels for Fall

Fall is a favorite time of year for me. Even though it's not technically a new year, with the kids returning to school, it feels like a new beginning. I treasure the breezy days of late September when we get to pack away the sandals and replace them with riding boots and polar fleeces. I enjoy apple picking and pumpkin carving with the kids while being mesmerized by the Fall foilage. But most of all, I love organizing and decorating for the new season.  Pumpkins, ghords, warm colors, blankets...  Autumn brings such cozy thoughts.  As I'm starting to think about and get in the mood for … [Read more...]

Fireplace Mantel

After many months, the warm weather FINALLY made it's arrival and over the past few weeks, I've been sprucing up for summer.  One area of my home that I've been focusing on is making some updates to the fireplace mantel. With a few simple switches and a couple DIY projects, it's looking much lighter and summer-y! Just to give you a peak at what it looked like before ~ The fireplace wall is quite the focal point in my home.  The wall is a burnt orange hue (the pictures distort the actual color a bit - - it's not as bright in person), while the other walls in the room are cardboard … [Read more...]

With the development of the flat … [Read more...]

Ancient fireplace

Now that the Holidays are over and the Valentine's decor is packed away, it is time for my fireplace to get a revamp for Spring.  Because fireplaces can be such a challenge for homeowners to design and style, I am dedicating this ENTIRE week to the topic of Fireplaces.  Now is your chance to chime in and/or ask questions about your fireplace dilemmas. Before we can begin discussing modern day fireplaces, let's take a step back to find out how they originated. I think it's helpful to understand the origin of certain aspects of design to give you the "know-how" on ways to create a cohesive and … [Read more...]

Valentine’s Mantel Decor

January 20, 2011

This week has been very busy and I took on WAY too many projects!  One positive result = I have LOTS to share with you.  My main focus was to decorate for Valentine's (didn't I just un-decorate from Christmas??).  To be honest, I'm really not into Valentine's Day (doesn't everyone say that) and I don't usually change my decor for this somewhat minor holiday, but I had fun styling my home with a few homemade crafty creations! Earlier this week, I posted pics of some Valentine's ideas from other talented bloggers and I gave you a preview of the pillows (and now the mantel) that I pulled … [Read more...]
