Hot on the newsstands... I'm thrilled to share that a kitchen project I designed is featured on the cover of the Spring 2014 Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publication, Kitchen + Bath Makeovers.  It's a huge honor and a project that's been in the works for over a year.  The issue just hit the newsstands and I actually haven't even got my hands on it yet (I downloaded the digital copy, which you can do too if you want - you won't be disappointed!)... Isn't it beautiful?!  It's a 3-tone kitchen, which I love.  AND it incorporates the color I am most obsessed with... NAVY.  … [Read more...]

Kitchen Makeover Update: One Year Later

August 1, 2012

before and after

One of the biggest projects to date that I tackled was my kitchen makeover.  I can't believe it's been a year, but this time last Summer, I was finishing up the final details and sharing it with you. Since that time, I've been flooded with questions (and many kind comments - thank you), and thought a One-Year-Followup post including answers + an update a year later would be interesting and helpful for those thinking of tackling something similar. There were alot of details and updates that went into the entire Kitchen Makeover, resulting in quite a few posts to explain all the … [Read more...]

Kitchen Makeover Complete

FINALLY the day has come that I can officially say that the kitchen is complete! It feels wonderful to finally make the reveal - you've all been very patient and so kind with your comments!  After weeks of project posts and minimal pictures, here it is~ If you haven't seen the kitchen before, here it is.  The cabinets were an orangey oak color with hunter green laminate on the countertop.  When we first moved into our house about a year ago, we quickly updated the cabinets with new hardware, but left everything else...until now! Before When originally sharing the pictures of the … [Read more...]

Kitchen Makeover Phase Four: Creating an Open Cabinet

Kitchen Makeover

You're probably saying to yourself..."Isn't she done YET?"  Who takes this long to redo a kitchen.  Well, between work and summer activities with the kids, my kitchen makeover has definitely been dragging.  And being away this week, hasn't help matters.  But I can promise you, the FINAL REVEAL will be very soon!  I pinky swear!! Before I left, I made another change to the kitchen that I am very excited about.  In the 'before' kitchen, I had a baker's rack with baskets that housed alot of misc things.  I didn't think it meshed with the look of the 'new' kitchen, but I still needed a place to … [Read more...]

Kitchen Makeover Phase Three: Tiling Over Laminate & Adding Cabinet Brackets

Kitchen Backsplash_10

Countertops done - check! Cabinets complete - check! Now I'm on to the details... I'm always attracted to a custom tiled backsplash versus the typical plain 4" high backsplash that matches the countertop surface.  Before embarking on the countertop transformation, my husband and I tried to remove the existing solid backsplash, but were unsuccessful.  We moved forward with our makeover, but I still had it in my head to do something. hmmm... Once the countertop was complete, I thought, 'how about tiling right over the laminate to create a custom look on the backsplash?'...why … [Read more...]

Kitchen Makeover Phase Two: Painting the Cabinets

July 20, 2011

The Kitchen Makeover is moving along.... It's been quite the undertaking, especially since the space has had to remain in working order throughout the entire process.  To be honest though, it really hasn't been too bad, but I am very thankful that it's almost done.  After the completion of the countertops last week, this week's task was to paint the cabinets. What do you think?? After much thought (and a few sleepless nights), I decided on a color that is primarily taupe, but has undertones of blue, green, and gray.  The actual color is Benjamin Moore - Berkshire Beige.  I have used … [Read more...]

Kitchen Countertop Reveal Using the Rust-Oluem Countertop Transformations Kit

July 14, 2011

Cabinet Transformation

I have been quite excited all week to share this….  As you know from my recent posts, my kitchen is in the midst of a minor makeover. No new cabinets.  No new countertops.  But the existing is all being TRANSFORMED. When the friendly folks at Rust-Oleum heard about my kitchen revamp, they kindly sent me their Countertop Transformations Kit in the Oynx finish to try out on my existing hunter green laminate surface.  From the many posts I’ve written on my kitchen, I have been quite indecisive on what to do with the countertops, and I thought the Rust-Oleum kit would be a great solution!  … [Read more...]

Kitchen Revamp is Underway

Before Kitchen_SAS Interiors

It's been a long time waiting, but I've FINALLY made my decisions on what to do with my kitchen.  A few months ago...7 months to be exact (back in late December), I mentioned that on my to-do list for 2011 was to makeover my kitchen.  I'd love to do a complete overhaul with new cabinets and beautiful new countertops, but it's not in the cards right now.  If you remember, I had decided to use stain on the cabinets to achieve a darker look, but was stuck on what to do with the countertops.   Well I changed my mind entirely...a girl can do that, right?!  No more stain, but instead ~ PAINT! My … [Read more...]

Decorating Above Kitchen Cabinets

faux greenery

One of the toughest spots in the house to decorate is above the kitchen cabinets. Do you have this problem? It's often a bare space of unchartered territory that you may have thought to add some decor, but just didn't know what to display or how to pull it all together. Am I right?  Here are some helpful solutions ~ Get Started Measure the length of cabinets, as well as the space from the top of the cabinet to the ceiling.  This will allow you to shop/look for the right items, making sure you don't buy something too large that won't fit or something too small that is dwarfed by the … [Read more...]

Kitchen Renovation Update: Decisions have been made!

December 30, 2010

A little update on my (minor) kitchen reno...I found some interesting ideas while making a pit stop @ Home Depot AND Lowe's yesterday.  After lots of thought, I've made some decisions!  I LOVE the idea of painting my kitchen cabinets black as I posted the other day, but am relunctant because the current countertop is a dark greenish laminate (it sounds worse than it is) and I don't want to invest a huge amount into it (since ONE DAY, I hope to do a BIG reno)!!  Since I am on a TIGHT BUDGET and don't want to invest too much money for a short fix, I have tried to thoroughly think … [Read more...]
