Top Paint Picks for Navy Blue Walls

Top Navy Colors

Yesterday I shared my Royal Blue Revelation and how I've been introducing this new-found hue into my home. I'm kinda psyched because not only is this color going to be an accent seen in accessories, but I plan on painting the front room a dark navy.  Yesterday I left you at the point of me knee-deep in color decisions, and today I'm sharing the final color choice, plus my Top Color Picks for Navy Blue Walls. I've always had a thing for black spaces - they're bold, dramatic, and striking - but I'm loving the navy hue just as much (and maybe even better)!  I've gathered some inspirational … [Read more...]

My Favorite Colors for Spring 2012

April 5, 2012

Favorite Colors1

Whether painting or adding a few new accessories or furniture, color is important to bring life into any space. Now that the long, drear days of winter are over, Spring is the perfect time of year to paint those beige walls and/or take a risk by buying that bright orange or yellow platter or vase that you've had your eye on for months!  You can never go wrong with a splash of color. My two favorite go-to paint lines are Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of other paint lines that I use and feel are a good quality, but there is just something … [Read more...]

Spring Mantel with Shades of Turquoise

Last week here in Upstate NY, the weather was amazing and I soaked up every bit of sun I could get. Now it's a little chillier, but Spring and Summer will be here before ya know it! In the midst of the gorgeous weather, I took some time to put together my new Spring Mantel. Over the past few months, I have been introducing more cooler colors than the warmer colors that I've lived with for many years. So my latest mantel creation has a whole lotta turquoise, which is a beautiful and dynamic compliment to the burnt orange focal wall. Here it is... What do you think? Turquoise is … [Read more...]

How-To-Paint-Designer-Stripes

Not too long ago I wrote an article for Build Direct on adding stripes into your decor.  Ever since, I've had the longing urge to add stripes SOMEPLACE in my home.  I recently made some new pillows for my family room and chose a fabric with stripes, but that wasn't enough.  I truly envisioned making a bold statement, but just wasn't sure where.  Until... ...I decided to makeover my son's room which was a home goal of mine for 2012.  It was the perfect spot to make dramatic focal wall with STRIPES! We started off by taking apart his bunkbeds (which you can see in this post), so he now … [Read more...]

Whether it be fashion, interiors, print, or web, if you're a follower of the design world, you know that every December the new Pantone Color for the next year is announced.  And as it is every year, the "IT color to come" was just announced and the "viviacious, enticing hue" for 2012 is PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango.  Not a complete surprise, this bold and bright color has been a favorite of the design industry for many years.  Similarly to last year's Honeysuckle hue, Tangerine Tango is striking, daring, and vibrant. The 2011 color of the year, PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, encouraged … [Read more...]

5 Bold Black Spaces

Black Interior_1

Everyone knows that the classic black dress is a staple for any woman.  We wear black all the time, so why don't we incorporate it into our Interiors? Black, sometimes thought of as a drear or depressing color, can actually be used in a dramatic and sophisticated way to create a stunning space with depth and intrigue.  Just like the classic black dress, accessories in lighter or bold accent colors can be layered on top to finish the look! The trend of using black throughout interior spaces has been around for a few years, but I still think people are intimidated by this fierce and … [Read more...]

Totally Loving Turquoise

July 27, 2011

Turquoise_1

I have a bit of an obsession with turquoise.  It doesn't really mesh well with the colors of my interior (boo), yet I was able to sneak a bit of it in my home during the reno to the kids bath (yay)!  It's such a fresh, bold, and engaging color that can be striking or subtle depending on it's use and collaboration with other hues. Yes, it was last year's Pantone Color of the Year, but I think it's still a HOT - HOT - HOT color, especially for summer!   Turquoise:  a slightly greenish tone of light blue based on the gem turquoise. The term comes from the French for Turkish. Pops … [Read more...]

Coral Colored Outdoors

Coral is smashing for summer! Coral is chic. Coral is casual. Coral eludes sophistication. It's such a cheerful color and is a great representation of happiness and joy. Coral is beautiful in a pattern or elegant as a solid. Coral is such a versatile hue, and when paired correctly, it is a great complement to many other colors like navy, green, turquoise, and purple. Of course, like most strong colors, you don't want to oversaturate a space. When used in appropriate doses, Coral can be powerful and dramatic. And Coral is a favorite in the … [Read more...]

Isn't it??  It truly brightens up the day. ENJOY! Yellow paired … [Read more...]
