A little over a week ago, I took a quick trip to NYC for the Best New Product Awards hosted by Better Homes and Gardens, along with BrandSpark.  Even though I was in New York for only 24 hours, which felt like 1 hour, it was a fun-filled, entertaining, and exciting day.  Let me share a little background about the Product Awards and then I'll get to the details of my adventures... The Best New Product Awards is a big deal!  Over 80,000 consumers participate annually and select their favorites in the categories of Beauty, Food & Beverage, Health & Personal Care, and Household … [Read more...]

How-To Hang Wallpaper Like a Pro!

March 11, 2014

If you follow me on Instagram - my favorite place on the web to share snippets throughout my day - then you know I had a busy weekend wallpapering. The kids room took a design turn after we found out a few weeks ago that baby #3 is going to be a girl.  In the end, as a family, we decided the kids will stay in the rooms they are currently in and the girls will eventually share a room once the baby is ready to move in.  So what does that mean??  Design changes!  The room that was going to be a shared boy / girl room was no longer needed.  Since we had already started on the transformation for my … [Read more...]

Another Monday is here.  Are you ready?  The clock change definitely did a doozy on us this weekend.  We all woke up late this morning and my littlest didn't get to bed last night till 9 and woke up today after 8, which is so NOT typical.  Anyway, it's all worth it because Spring is hopefully on it's way...  cross fingers as tight as possible. I hope y'all had a great weekend.  Once again, with it being so cold, we mostly stayed indoors and tackled some major projects.  More on that later this week and beyond.  In the meantime, I want to share some exciting news about a local publication … [Read more...]

Oh My, where are the days going?  I swear, I wake up and 5 minutes later it is night time.  I can not keep ahead, but thankfully all is good - NO complaints, except for the bitter cold temps.  Some fun news to share...  I was in NYC for a quick trip late last week and met up with some blogger pals - Diane, Kelly, and Denise - for a Better Homes and Gardens event.  BHG, along with BrandSpark, invited some local bloggers to the Best New Product Awards, where we got to mingle with representatives of some big brands.  It was so fun to "get out" and meet others who are just as passionate as I.  … [Read more...]

Master Bedroom Refresh {REVEAL} : Room transformation with inexpensive solutions + DIY projects! You will surely be INSPIRED!

One topic on the blog that I've shared inspiration on the most times, have received the most pins, and gets the most questions + comments, is creating a gallery wall. Gallery walls are one of my most favorite design elements in a home because it tells so much.  Whether putting together a collection of a few large black and white family photos or creating a wall from wall edge to wall edge filled with colorful instagram images + momentos from your travels, a gallery wall is an expression of who you and your family are; truly the most important part of creating a meaningful home. As the … [Read more...]

Ideas for Breaking Up Matching Furniture

February 21, 2014

Pushing the limits and ditching the "rules" of decorating can sometimes be tough.  And even as a designer, I've fallen victim to "not following the rules". But honestly, what rules? There are no real decorating rules that must be followed to a T.   Instead I have tried to train myself and in turn share suggestions + ideas with you, my readers,  rules of thumb, helpful tips + tricks, and inspiration, but definitely no must-follow-these-rules-or-you're-wrong. Why?  Because no house is the same. Because no 2 people have the same feeling of what's most important to them. Because every … [Read more...]

Is it really Wednesday already?  With the kids off for winter break this week, the days have been flying by.  Plus I've been putting the final touches on the master bedroom and have started working on the kids room.  I even was busy over the weekend with a big build project (here is a picture peak). Before sharing another update on the rooms, I put together a collection of my favorite capiz shell chandeliers for another 7 series feature.  Last week I showcased my latest DIY creation and how I created a hanging fixture using a capiz shell fixture from World Market.  It gives the most … [Read more...]

Let There Be Light: How to Make a Pendant Fixture

February 13, 2014

You may have noticed a pretty little pendant in some of the pictures I've been sharing of projects throughout the progress of my master bedroom revamp.  Guess what, I made it. Well kind of. So I didn't actually make the fabulous fixture, but I did electrify it so it could work as a light. The fixture I am referring to is the capiz hanging pendant from World Market, one of my favorite resources for interior decor.  I had originally intended on using the pendant on our ceiling fan.  I'm not crazy that we have a fan in our room instead of an amazing chandelier.  But since it gets super hot … [Read more...]
