Nacho Surprise + Score BIG with Rubbermaid

January 14, 2013

We are a football family.

Come Sunday at 1pm from September to January, everything comes to a hault.

And with football comes food! The Superbowl is only a few short weeks away and the planning of the menu has already begun (it’s always kind of a spoiler for diets, but it’s just one day).  It’s usually an evening filled with good friends, funny commercials, shouting at the TV, and of course plenty of food.  The best part is when everyone goes home, the kitchen counter is always filled with lots of leftovers!

For me (and I’m assuming many of you), the bane of my existence is finding the right containers to packaway the yummy leftover food.  This year I don’t care!  Ya know why?  Because a little birdy told me that Target has an awesome Rubbermaid coupon for their EasyFind Lids Containers and the TakeAlongs RIGHT NOW –  SCORE!  I quickly cleared out the tupperware cabinet and threw away all the mismatched tops and containers.  I wasn’t left with much after it was all done.  I was fine with that because I just filled it back up with my new purchases.

This girl is ready for Superbowl Sunday!

Awesome Rubbermaid coupons at Target

Honestly, when I got to the aisle at Target, I just couldn’t decide.  They have such a great selection and so many sizes to choose from.  Large sizes for wings, chips, salads etc., all the way down to small, half cup sizes for dips and sauces.  I have found that the Rubbermaid brand amongst other top brands and the general styles, are really the best.  They are durable and last a long time.  One of my favorite features about the Easy Find Lids is that the lid snaps to the bottom.  Hello – no more mismatched lids and containers!

Plus both styles have leak-free seals to prevent the dreadful spills and messes.  They’d be just perfect for the party food you’ll be cooking, whether you stay home or bring your food along to a friends house.

To test out one of my new containers, I made my all-time favorite Superbowl dish, Nacho Surprise (because there is a surprise in every bite).

I found this recipe years ago, have modified it a bit, and make it every Superbowl.  This year will be no different!

Nacho Surprise

  • One bag of Doritos
  • 15 ounce can of enchilada sauce ( I use mild, but if you like some fire, go with hot)
  • 10 ounce can of chili with beans
  • 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 Onion (chopped and sauted)
  • 2 cups of shredded cheese
  • 2 cups sour cream
  1. Chop and saute the onion.  Then mix it with the enchilada sauce, the chili, the tomato sauce, and 1 cup of the shredded cheese.
  2. Take about 3/4 of the doritos and crush them up (which is a great destresser). Then mix them in with the enchilada mix.
  3. Transfer it all into a 13 x 9 cooking dish
  4. Bake for 25 minutes.
  5. Take the dish out of the oven and evenly spread the sour cream onto the top.  Add the remaining non-crushed doritos and sprinkle on the remaining shredded cheese.
  6. Put the dish back into the oven and bake for another 5-8 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Once it’s done, ENJOY!

You and your guests will LOVE it (if it’s not all eaten before they come).

Nacho Surprise: A Favorite Superbowl Recipe

My Nacho Surprise is ready for game day.  Thanks to my new containers, I had no troubles storing it away in the refrig along with some delicious homemade vegetable soup, chicken fingers, and of course salad (ya gotten balance out the good and the bad).  The Rubbermaid containers stack so neatly and pretty – don’t they?!

  1. I’m not a big superbowl person, and we don’t usually watch. BUT, I love rubbermaid containers, since I’ve always got a little of this or that leftover from prep or a meal.

I’ve been finding these at the Dollar Tree lately, which is a HUGE score for me, since my boys like to ‘forget’ their containers at school on a daily basis.

  4. Christine says:

Super random question… how do you usually eat this? Scoop it out with more Doritos or with a fork?

    • Just saw your comment Christine – sorry for the delayed response. You may have made this for Superbowl, but it really is tasty for any time of year. I usually use the whole doritos to scoop up the dish, as well as a fork. The combo works perfectly. Enjoy! xo Jenna
