Help Those Affected by Sandy – #SocksForSandy

November 5, 2012

The horrific storm of Sandy hit one week ago today.  Even though I was thankfully spared living in Upstate NY, many of my family and friends in the Northeast region are still without power, gas, food, water, or supplies.  Worse off, MANY are without a home to return to.  It’s simply unimaginable and saddening.  In this great time of need, there are alot of people that have come together to make a difference and help those during this horrific time.

An awesome initiative was started by the Blogging community, and specifically Laura of Pet Scribbles, called Socks for Sandy in an effort to help victims get hats, gloves, and socks.  Donations can be sent to the address below.  They are delivered to a post office mailbox that is owned by Laura and she personally brings each package to the local hurricane shelter for distribution. Any excess will be given to other hurricane shelters up and down New Jersey’s coastline.

What’s Needed (for all ages):

  • warm socks
  • gloves
  • winter hats
  • (it’s also been said that there is a need for plus-sized women’s clothes)
Send them to:
Socks for Sandy
P.O. Box 520
Little Egg Harbor, NJ  08087
Please mail by Friday, November 9, since the need is urgent.

What more can you do?

Make a Donation – The Red Cross response to Sandy is very large, and will be very costly. Those who want to help can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief by:

Give Blood – More than 360 Red Cross blood drives have been cancelled due to the storm, representing a loss of as many as 12,000 blood and platelet products. People who are eligible, especially in places not affected by the storm, are asked to schedule a donation appointment in the days and weeks to come.

Please spread the word! Every little bit helps!
