Two-Toned Retro Side Table

Two-Toned Retro Table Makeover

It seemed like every Saturday during the Summer when we were out-n-about, we stopped at garage sales.  As a family, we can never resist a bargain - especially when a makeover is in store.  During one of our many morning "pit stops", I scored this retro style table that has two table levels and a drawer in between.  The legs are very slender (#1 characteristic of retro-style furniture) and it reminded me of furniture from the 50's.   My decor has quite eclectic and I thought it would be the perfect addition for the living room. I always think it's fun when you get to transform a piece of … [Read more...]

Paint Techniques-9

I love PAINT!  Whether it be regular paint, spray paint, or craft paint, paint can dramatically change and transform any room or piece of furniture.  With my many painting endevours, I have learned a few tricks and tips along the way, and now I want to share them with YOU!   Tip 1 There is never a time when you’re painting that you’ll be done with the brush or roller after your first coat.  Either you need to take a break OR you are waiting for the paint to dry. Before I discovered this all-time favorite paint trick, I washed my brush/roller with water EVERY TIME to avoid it from … [Read more...]

DIY: Child’s Play Kitchen

October 21, 2011

Aside from blogging, working, and being a mom and wife, I have spent every waking moment of my spare time over the last two weeks, making this... I didn't buy it this way.  I made it! I actually can't believe it myself.  This is what I started with - a wood nightstand with two drawers. My daughter turned two last month and she really loves to play with pretend food, so I searched and hunted for a play kitchen for her birthday.  I  found a few I liked, but they were either too expensive or too big, so after some thought, I decided to make one on my own.  I DIY everything else, so … [Read more...]

Giving New Life to an Old Lamp: Part 2 of the Lamp Makeover

October 19, 2011

Lamp Makeover

Earlier this week, I shared my project-fail-turned-success story with the lampshade I made-over using spray paint and sandpaper.  Yes, an interesting combination, I know, but I was desperate - head over to read that post where I was simply keepin' it real!  Anyway, the lamp base for what the lampshade sat on got a little makeover as well and this went much more according to plan (thankfully)! Again, armed with spray paint - this time it was Rust-Oleum's Hammered Dark Bronze, I was ready to makeover this lamp that was once white and was purchased for my son's nursery before he was born.  … [Read more...]

Project Fail Turned Success: Lampshade Makeover

October 17, 2011

Some projects are smooth sailing the entire way, like this, and some are NOT! From the get-go this project was just fail, fail, fail - it had FAIL written all over it.  BUT once I put my "thinking cap" on, things made a little turn for the better.  The result? have to read on to find out how ~ To give you a peak, this is the end result, but it took some time getting here (to say the least). The story begins in a far away castle with a princess searching for a crowned jewel garage with a DIYer attempting to revamp a lampshade. I felt like our front room (a.k.a. … [Read more...]

5 Minute Autumn Centerpiece

October 11, 2011

This past weekend when I got my DIY groove back, I made a centerpiece for my dining table that literally took less than 5 minutes and cost nothing!  The pictures, staging, and post took longer than the actual project.  Thankfully I am SO pleased with the results and now my dining table is complete for the Fall season.  Here's a sneak peak of the final outcome, but let me take you through the steps so you can make one for your table! A few weeks ago, while going for an evening walk around the neighborhood, there were a pile of cut down trees on the side of the road ready for the next … [Read more...]
