5 Bold Black Spaces

September 30, 2011

Black Interior_1

Everyone knows that the classic black dress is a staple for any woman.  We wear black all the time, so why don't we incorporate it into our Interiors? Black, sometimes thought of as a drear or depressing color, can actually be used in a dramatic and sophisticated way to create a stunning space with depth and intrigue.  Just like the classic black dress, accessories in lighter or bold accent colors can be layered on top to finish the look! The trend of using black throughout interior spaces has been around for a few years, but I still think people are intimidated by this fierce and … [Read more...]

Autumn Mantel and Exterior Seasonal Decor

September 28, 2011

All of a sudden Fall is here and it's back to being in the 70s/80s and humid (in NY) - go figure.  Well I finally got my act together and now that it's officially Fall, the transformation of my seasonal decor has begun.  Over the past few days, I have been changing out my Summer wares of light blankets and brighter colored pillows to a warmer, more cozy setting. Fall has always been a favorite season of mine with the changing colors on the leaves, the ability to bring in natural elements from the outdoors, and the warm hues and textures that can be incorporated into a space.  To start off … [Read more...]

Asian Inspired Decor

Asian Decor_1

Incorporating Asian elements into a space has been a favorite of many for years.  Asian design is not an overnight trend that we said hello to yesterday and goodbye to tomorrow.  Because Asian decor has strong roots to the largest continent on earth, it's influence continues to dominate a large portion of the global design world, hence it's trend-lessness. Be inspired by these Asian influenced spaces that showcase a chic and effortless style. One of the most prominent characteristics of Asian style is the use of bold colors.  Red is the most used color, but other colors like blue and gold … [Read more...]

5 Ingredient Apple Dumplings

September 26, 2011

Apple Dumplings

Happy Monday!  To start off the week, I wanted to share a yummy Fall recipe that I know you will enjoy. As a family, one of our favorite Fall things to do is apple picking!  After along day of picking apples, we always leave with plenty of filled bags. It's a family tradition that we love, but once we arrive home, our countertops are overloaded with basketfuls of these tasty treats.  After eating apples day in and day out, we're at a loss for what to do with them.  After our excursion to the farm last weekend, I searched for apple recipes on Pinterest and found this delicious treat.  I … [Read more...]

Welcome Autumn!

September 23, 2011

It's here... It's here... Autumn is here! For some reason, this year has been difficult for me to say goodbye to Summer. I guess because the winter in NY was soooo long and the summer wasn't overly hot, I felt like I wasn't ready for it to end (I know many of you southerns feel the complete opposite - you are so ready to ba-bye to summer). Anyway, I am starting to get into the Fall spirit and am so thankful to live in a part of the country (Upstate NY) that is known for amazing Fall foilage.  The deep colors of reds, oranges, and yellows are just a delight to see and experience. Here are a … [Read more...]

Repurposed Shutter Decor

September 22, 2011

Shutter Decor_1

I get so much enjoyment when repurposing something that was minutes away from being dumped into the garbage. Making treasure out of trash is my "thang" and each time I transform something which could have been mistaken for garbage, I'm always amazed at the new life it's taken on. Yesterday I shared my shutter makeover, where I transformed and repurposed FREE shutters and made them into wall art to display family photos and memories.  After I wrote the post, I wanted to see what other people have created by repurposing old shutters.  Boy, was I amazed...  via No. 1 No matter the style … [Read more...]

DIY: Shutter Photo Display

September 21, 2011

Shutter Photo Display

A few weekends ago on a beautiful Saturday morning, I was out and about with the family headed to the local farmer's market, when I noticed house after house were having garage sales.  I l-u-r-v-e me some good ole' garage sale finds, so I couldn't resist stopping at a few.  No joke - after just three stops, my SUV was packed and not one more thing would fit. Things were over my kids heads, in between the seats, and even on our laps.  The least I can say is that our morning excursion was quite a success! One awesome score were two pairs of interior shutters that a homeowner was giving away.  … [Read more...]

SAS Interiors Turns One

September 19, 2011

via I can not believe that I've had my Interior Design business and have been blogging for a year now.  In one aspect it seems like I started "this whole thing" yesterday, and in another, I feel like I've never not been doing it - it's a strange feeling!  Well, all I can say is, what a year it's been.  Last year, my first post title was making Lemonade Out of Lemons, and I still feel that is the best way to sum up how my new venture began. The last few years have been quite a roller coaster ride (I'll spare you the up and down details), and I never could have imagined that a year ago … [Read more...]

Missoni Picture Frame Knock-Off

September 16, 2011

DIY_Missoni Picture Frame

If you aren't a fashionista you may not have heard of Missoni before this week. And if you still don't know who or what Missoni is, it's an Italian fashion house based in Italy and is well-known for their high-end bold and bright colors and patterns.  This past Tuesday, Missoni launched a line at Target.  Yes, that's right... Target, which is a whole new world for them since until now, they've only been known for their luxury goods. The launch in Target stores went bananas (hello, I turned into Rachel Zoe for a split moment). As Emily and Myra wrote, it was a Missoni craze on Tuesday … [Read more...]
