Earth Day Exclusive: Recycling Paint Chips

April 22, 2011

Happy Earth Day!

Today is all about ways to make our planet a greener and more eco-friendly place to live.  One way to make a difference is by recycling.  Most of us recycle our papers and plastics, but what about other everyday household items?  What about paint chips??  I know all of you have picked up some paint chips once or twice when thinking about a room makeover!

As a Designer, I always have a slew of paint chips laying around, which I don’t want to just throw away!  I came across an awesome project of how to make a bookmark using paint chips, and was on the search for other fun and unique projects using these free colorful papers.

Check these out!!!

The bookmark paint chips that I mentioned above was created by How About Orange. Using a little glue, ribbon, and your recycled paint chips, a one-of-a-kind design can be made in minutes.

Nikki of Whimsy Love shared a great idea by using your almost-thrown-out paint chips to create easy Paint Sample Notebooks.  By adding a few embellishments, a crafty creation is perfect for a little gift or yourself.

How great as a Designer to have a Card Holder made out of paint chips…this is a sure conversation starter!  Design Verb came up with this innovative concept  by using a few everyday tools and a great imagination.

OMG…this is adorable!  Beckie of Infarrantly Creative made these Paint Chip Purses (perfect for any girly-girl) and they couldn’t be more cute.

Another thoughtful project by How About Orange is to make Paint Chip Magnets. How pretty would it by to have your favorite colors on your frig?!  Jessica uses Pantone Paint Chips, but any style will do.  You can also make them any shape or size.  Add some embellishments or letters (for the kids) to make them even more interesting.

Maia from Lollipoop Designs creates these 3″ x 5″ Paint Sample Notebooks…perfect to grab-n-go when you are on the run!  Leave it in your bag and you’ll always have it to jot down a quick note.

OK, this is a little amazing, RIGHT?! Featured on Made By Girl, this homeowner showcased favorite paint chips on the walls leading to the attic space.  WOW!

Every paint company has a different shape and style for the way they display their paint chips.  There are endless options to create different projects depending on the look you want to achieve.

I have lots of paint chips, but I think I’ll need more after seeing ALL of these awesome ideas!

  6. I am obsessed with saving paint chips. I have gone on sprees where I hop from home improvement store to store gathering tons of these things, I usually drag one of my granddaughters along to help. I am moving now and it has broken my heart to have to part with some of them. I have actually spent $15 a box to ship them via usps. I love the colors. I love to make cards, tags and ornaments from them. I am so excited when I use them with my texture plates and my Stampin Up Big Shot and sizzix dies or spellbinders dies. There is an infinite number of things to be made with them. For those pesty little number and name codes, just use your shape punches to pop out something you can adhere to that unsightly text. I love your ideas and your examples, thanks for sharing.

    • I am so glad you love paint chips as much as I do, Joy!! Thanks for sharing with me what you love to do with them. I actually just recently made coasters, which I will be sharing in an upcoming post. Good Luck with your move and thanks again for stopping by SAS Interiors! xo Jenna
