Incredible Ikat

March 30, 2011

I'm always taken back when I see a pattern "make" (or sometimes break) a room.  Lately, I've been enthralled with patterns and there are certainly some beauties out there.  From my recent post on the chevron pattern and the DIY chevron rug I created, I'm sure you can tell that I'm a little obsessed loving the look of different patterns and depending on the color, style, and texture, a pattern can transform a space and give it new life.  Ikat has been around the block a few times (and then some), but I still love it's bold and unique flavor.  Truly older than old, Ikat is still going strong … [Read more...]

Tour My Home: Girls Room ~ Honeysuckle Retreat

March 28, 2011

Nursery_Girl Room_2

A few weeks ago I shared a glimpse of my daughters room with the bow holder that I created for all of her pretty hair accessories.  I received some questions from readers about the specifics of the space and thought it would be fun to do a "tour" of her girlified room. The moment I found out I was having a girl, I couldn't wait to design her "pad" (what else would an Interior Designer think about??).  I wanted to create a space using color and decor that would be perfect for NOW, as well as her future ages and stages.  After much thought, I chose a color palette of fuschia (similar to the … [Read more...]

The New Addition to our Family

March 25, 2011

haha...  gotcha...  NOT "that kind" of NEW ADDITION! But,this kind...... I always have SO many projects going on at my time and once I get something stuck in my head, I become fixated on it.  FOR EXAMPLE...   The latest stuck-in-my-head project was to find a desk for my living room.  I immediately was on the HUNT! My requirements: old vintage, clean lines/simple, solid wood, drawer space, inexpensive. In just a few days....I found the desk (well actually my friend found it for me, thanks Elaina) on Craigslist for $50!   She emailed me a couple of options which weren't cutting it, and then … [Read more...]

How to Make Fake Flowers Look Real

March 23, 2011

Artificial Flowers_2

Even though it's technically Spring, it's difficult to believe, with all the snow still on the ground here in NY.  Thankfully my mindset is already on pretty Spring flowers to get me through the final days of the long drawn-out Winter.  I'm continually changing and updating my Dining Room display depending on the season and holiday.  I love the look of fresh flowers (who doesn't?), but sometimes an artificial arrangement is simpler and more practical to maintain. When shopping for your arrangement, look for flowers that have a natural, "real" appearance and that hang similar to a real … [Read more...]

Sherwin Williams Paint Visualizer

Have you ever been reluctant to paint a room because you simply CAN NOT CHOOSE A COLOR??  Fear no more.  Most paint companies, if not all, offer a feature on their website that allows you to upload and virtually see your room with other paint colors.  Virtual visualizers are a great way to see how your space would look BEFORE investing endless hours and lots of money. With the kids bathroom being the next space on my list to renovate, I thought virtually playing with some colors would help me hone in on what color to paint.  After checking out a few paint manufacturer sites, I found Sherwin … [Read more...]

Creating a Kids Art Gallery Wall

March 16, 2011

Over the past month, I've been sharing the various steps of my basement transformation. It has taken on a life of it's own, BUT I can gladly say it is slowly, but surely, nearing the point of completion.  It's not a perfectly designed masterpiece, but a space that is fun and enjoyable for the kids to hang out and play.  Along with my craft area / mom cave and built-in chalkboard wall for the kids, I recently transformed the scary ugly end feature wall in the room, to create an art gallery to display the kids beautiful creations. … [Read more...]
