{Tutorial} Tiling a Backsplash

November 11, 2010

Simple things, make a BIG difference. I'm always sprucing my house, thinking about what to update, and continually making changes.  A quick reno that I just finished was adding a tile backsplash to my powder room sink. This is how the powder room looked before we moved in. The walls were painted a semi-gloss, DARK forest green color and there was an ugly flower border at the top ~ too bad I don't have a picture of that...you would have loved it, NOT! Once we got our hands on it, we removed the ugly border and painted the room a card board brown color (one of my favs) and the sink … [Read more...]

Estate Sale Finds

November 8, 2010

Some of the best pieces in my home, I found at estate sales. An estate sale is a great place to find unique and conversational items that you wouldn't see at an ordinary home furnishings store. Some typical estate sale finds, such as dining room chairs, buffets, side tables, coffee tables, etc, can be transformed into beautiful furniture pieces that complement your decor. Use your imagination when revitalizing your treasure. At first you might ask yourself "What would I do with this?", but a little spray paint and/or a new trendy fabric, might be the trick to take it from blah to … [Read more...]

For the Love of Sconces

November 5, 2010

I ♥ sconces...they fit in any decor  ~ traditional or modern, classic or contemporary ~ and there is a design for every style!  Wall sconces are ideal for any space that needs additional indirect lighting or any where you want to simply MAKE A STATEMENT.  Since the light provided from a wall sconce is usually minimal, it is just enough to create a soothing and relaxing ambience, but also negate unwanted shadows created by overhead downlight(s).The wall sconces above by Horchow are so stylish and their striking, but simplistic design, will complement any decor.  The … [Read more...]
