Materials that Withstand the Elements

November 3, 2010

Isn’t it annoying upsetting when mud gets tracked through the house and onto a rug you love?  Or when a fabric gets stained and you want to scream you can’t get it out?

Finally, textile designers in the industry are listening and have developed lots of options that are available to avoid the frustrations of everyday wear and tear to our interiors! Take a look at these great options for indoor / outdoor rugs that can be easily cleaned with mild soap and water.  I have been searching for a new rug for my entryway because I am tired of the mud and leaves being traipsed through…love the simple, yet elegant trellis pattern design (on the right)….definitely an option for MY space!

Take a look at these options from Ballard Designs and Restoration Hardware

One company that has been on the innovative track in creating amazing indoor / outdoor fabrics is, Sunbrella.  The company was founded over 45 years ago and started out by making marine canvas for luxury boats.  They took that same passion for their amazing materials and applied it to create innovative fabrics for our interiors.  The selections that they offer are stain resistant and have a sun protection coating. They offer a huge selection of beautiful patterns and textures that can be incorporated into any decor, but are easily cleanable and withstand the elements!
Sunbrella, ” From exclusive decorative Jacquards, luxurious velvets, and romantic sheers available to the trade through a host of jobbers to a wide variety of livable looks available through your local furniture retailer or patio shop, Sunbrella has the right look to suit your busy lifestyle.”
Using outdoor fabrics for your interiors is a trend that’s NOT going away!  Some other companies that have a large selection of outdoor fabrics to use indoors are Scalamandre, F and S Fabrics, House of Fabrics, Kravet, and Patio Culture.  They offer colors, patterns, and textures in an array of cottons, velvets, linens and polyblends.
