All Things Parisian…defining today’s decor!

October 31, 2010

It's so apropos to write about Paris in regards to design, since it's truly the mecca of where great artists trained and refined (and also defined) their craft.  École des Beaux-Arts, an influential design school in Paris, focused on classical arts and architecture from Greek and Roman culture, thus creating the Beaux Arts Movement in the early 20th century.  It's amazing to think that from this very influential movement, developed the American contemporary design....a style that we all are so familiar with today.  Furniture and accessories that are in many of our homes, are … [Read more...]

Our Family Treasure Hunt

October 27, 2010

One thing I ♥, but don't often get to do, is travel.  With young kids and the busyness of everyday life, our travel days have come few and far between.  When my hubby and I were first married we traveled to many places and somehow we started collecting spoons from each destination.  It started off as a quirky, funny exploration, but since, it's become our family treasure hunt.  I love that along with our photographs, I can reminisce about our amazing memories through my spoon collection.  My continually growing collection is displayed in my foyer, in a beautiful … [Read more...]

Halloween Decorating with Style

October 24, 2010

This week is all about Halloween, so let's spook up your home in style! My favorite time of year is Fall and I'm so thankful to live in the best part of the country ~ the Adirondacks in upstate NY ~ to experience the beautiful candy-corn colors of the changing trees. Once the first leaves start falling outside, I remove the summer decor and replace it with pumpkin-colored candles, warm comfy blankets, and Fall florals....and then right around the corner is Halloween. I usually don't decorate specifically for the holiday, except with a few pumpkins amongst my Fall decor. But I was inspired … [Read more...]

BOOK SUGGESTION: Real Simple 799 New Uses for Old Things

October 19, 2010

A friend of mine, who has a blog called One Creative Mom, was in the bookstore last week and told me about a must-have book...actually let me reword that and instead say, RESOURCE, instead of book. Real Simple magazine recently released this magazine/book called 799 New Uses for Old Things: An encyclopedia of innovative ideas for everyday items. How awesome! It's more like a book than a magazine, but it can be found in the magazine aisle, along with other home decor books. What creative ways to YOU reuse items around your house? … [Read more...]
